Hart: Why Trump Won
So, yes, there was, indeed, a “hidden group” of Donald Trump supporters whom the pollsters never found and whom the “mainstream media” never wanted to find. And, yes, I thought that “hidden group” might exist, but I failed to see that they could turn out in enough force to lift Trump to the White House
Trump won this election because he was correct in so many ways. He knew millions of white voters had “had enough” of all the political and social changes that have roiled this country over the past decades. These are folks whom Democrats have taken for granted as they left them behind. These are people who have worked hard and who have never been properly respected by the likes of the Washington Post, the New York Times, and by ABC, NBC and CBS.
Trump also was correct that he could essentially by-pass the traditional forms of campaigning to surge to victory. Hillary Clinton raised more money, had a bigger and better-organized “ground game,” and bought more TV ads than Trump did. And she still lost.
And Trump won because he not only brilliantly channeled all the frustration and anger that’s welled up in this country — he won because Hillary was, in the end, a lousy, deeply flawed candidate. Voters had enough of her and her lies about those private emails and, yes, enough of her husband.
Congratulations to President-elect Trump. He won, and that gives him the chance to truly “make America great” again. I hope he can and will.
