Black and Blue
When a police officer dies in the line of duty it is common for his or her fellow officers to place a strip of black tape across their badges, this is called a mourning badge and it usually stays on until the day following the funeral of the deceased officer. It is also common for police officers to wear a mourning badge when any officer is killed anywhere in America.
That is why some police officers have worn mourning badges non-stop since June, never having taken off the tape out of respect for their fallen comrades.
This Thanksgiving, I, for one, will give thanks that America still has brave and loyal men and women who are willing to uphold their sworn duty to serve and protect an often thankless society.
